Gombe Partners AATF to Boost Agriculture, Food Security

The Gombe State Government has pledged to strengthen agricultural development through a partnership with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF).

At an interactive session with the AATF delegation, Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau said the collaboration would help improve productivity and food security, especially in the Northeast where most people rely on farming.

Dr. Jatau noted that while agriculture ranks fourth among the state’s priorities, it remains critical for economic diversification and job creation. He appreciated AATF’s efforts in training farmers and promoting sustainable practices.

AATF Team Leader, Dr. Kayode Sanni, lauded Gombe’s commitment to food security and highlighted plans to introduce technologies like drought-tolerant and insect-resistant seeds, mechanisation, and AI to boost yields.

He said AATF’s innovations could raise maize yields from 2-3 tonnes per hectare to 6-7 tonnes.
