The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with Iraq’s Ministry of Agriculture, participated in the 16th Agricultural Week at the Baghdad International Fair, held from April 15 to 20.
Themed “Supporting Agriculture for a Sustainable Future”, the event focused on innovation, mechanization, food industries, and packaging technologies. FOA used the platform to showcase climate-smart agricultural practices, modern technologies, and locally-produced goods developed through value chain programmes.
With support from international donors such as the EU, Canada, Sweden (SIDA), Norway, and the Global Environment Facility, FAO highlighted successful interventions in rural resilience and sustainable agriculture.
During the fair, Iraq’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abbas Jabr Al-Maliki, praised FAO’s contributions and awarded the organization the Shield of Creativity and Excellence. Over 3,000 visitors, including students, officials, and farmers, engaged with FAO’s booth.
FAO reiterated its commitment to supporting Iraq’s agricultural transformation—focusing on empowering youth, women, and rural communities while promoting sustainable development and climate action.
