The Adamawa State Government has invested N2 billion in agricultural inputs to support farmers and address food insecurity ahead of the 2025 farming season.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. David Finchiwa Jatau, disclosed this in Yola on Monday during an interview with journalists. He said the initiative targets all 21 local government areas and will provide subsidized fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides to farmers, especially the youth.
As part of the programme, 300 hectares of farmland will be developed in each LGA and allocated to 300 young farmers. Beneficiaries will retain full ownership of their harvests.
Jatau noted that this year’s intervention began earlier than in previous years to ensure timely farming activities. He added that 10,000 bags of assorted fertilizers have already been procured and distribution has started in six LGAs: Madagali, Michika, Hong, Maiha, Demsa, and Ganye.
He said the programme would be extended to the remaining LGAs by the next rainy season, with the goal of reducing youth unemployment and boosting food production.
According to him, many young people are willing to farm but lack the capital to start, a challenge the state government aims to address through this initiative.
