Post-Election Violence Escalating Against APC Members in Osun, Oyebamiji Alleges

By Boluwatife Adedokun

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Osun State election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has raised the alarm over what he described as a growing wave of violence and hostility against members and supporters of the party.

Oyebamiji alleged that attacks against APC members, which he said were recorded in the build-up to the election, had intensified in the last 24 hours, prompting him to call for the immediate intervention of security agencies.

In a statement issued on Monday, the APC candidate urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to act swiftly to prevent the situation from deteriorating.

“The violent attacks on our members witnessed in the build-up to the election have taken another dimension in the last 24 hours. Consequently, I urge the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and arrest this ugly trend without delay,” he said.

The former Managing Director of the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL) appealed to APC supporters across the state to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions in the post-election period.

“As events unfold, I urge all of you to remain calm and peaceful as you go about your daily activities in the post-election period,” he stated.

Although he acknowledged that the party had hoped for a different outcome in the governorship election, Oyebamiji said he respected the position of the electoral umpire while backing the APC’s ongoing review of the election results.

“Although we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he added.

The APC candidate also thanked party members, supporters, volunteers and voters for standing by him throughout the campaign, describing their commitment and sacrifices as invaluable.

According to him, the end of the election does not mark the end of the ideals and development agenda championed during the campaign.

He urged party members to remain engaged in their communities and continue to work for the progress and development of Osun State despite the outcome of the election.

The statement was signed by Oyebamiji and dated August 17, 2026.
