The Accord Party House of Representatives candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has urged voters in Otan-Ile and Imesi-Ile, Osun State, to reject politicians who abandon their constituents after winning elections but return to seek their support when another election approaches.
Olajengbesi said elected officials must remain accountable to the people who voted them into office, stressing that political leaders should not take the electorate for granted or forget those who worked for their electoral victories.
He made the appeal during a familiarisation visit to Otan-Ile and Imesi-Ile as part of efforts to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawyer said voters had the power to determine the political fortunes of candidates through their ballots, urging them to assess politicians based on their relationship with the people and their commitment to their constituents.
He also called for sustained engagement between political representatives and residents, noting that the relationship should not be limited to election periods.
Olajengbesi expressed confidence in his party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts despite the defection of some political officeholders in Ijesa North to the All Progressives Congress.
The defections of the member representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Wole Oke, and Osun East Senator, Adenigba Fadahunsi, to the APC had prompted claims that Olajengbesi’s camp would struggle to secure even 100 votes.
However, the Accord candidate said the mobilisation efforts of his supporters, party leaders and members had demonstrated their capacity to connect with voters.
He cited the August 2026 Osun governorship election as an example, commending residents of Otan-Ile for their turnout and support for Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Olajengbesi urged the residents to sustain their participation and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying collective action would be crucial in determining the future of the constituency.
He called on voters to remain politically engaged and hold elected officials accountable, insisting that representatives should maintain close contact with their constituents before, during and after elections.
