The overall best graduate of Achievers University, Owo, Adama Rebecca, has revealed that her success is attributed to her father’s unwavering support throughout her academic journey.
She explained that her Dad singlehandedly invested significant effort in her education, which motivated her to excel, and in turn, she feels compelled to honor him by maintaining diligence in her studies.
She graduated from the Faculty of Law and received recognition at the Institution’s Convocation ceremony on December 9, 2023.
She noted that studying law as a noble profession, she intends contributing value to society and advocating for the oppressed.
In an interview with The Harbinger, Rebecca reiterated that her father’s influence was the driving force behind her excellent performance.
She expressed joy at being named the best student for the 2022/23 session.
While initially contemplating achieving this feat in her 500-level, Rebecca received a call from the school instructing her to prepare a speech, confirming her accomplishment.
“I thought in my 500 level that I may be the best graduate student. It just came like a thought but I was not sure until I received a call from the school that I should prepare my speech”, She said.
Reflecting on her academic journey, she emphasized consistency in studies and shared her practice of ensuring work did not accumulate over the weekends.
Rebecca recalled a memorable experience during her six years of study, where minimal preparation led to an ‘A’ grade. Notably, the lowest grade she received during her undergraduate years was a ‘B.’
Discussing the strict marking guide of lecturers, she explained that providing accurate answers guarantees success.
“But I make sure the work does not get piled up for me. So, every weekend, even though I was not consistent with that. Every weekend I make sure I read everything that I’ve done that week and I trust God”, she said when asked about how she read her books.
Her advice to students
As advice to aspiring students, Rebecca urged them to trust in the Lord, commit their ways to God, and approach exams as if teaching their lecturers.
“My advice to students aspiring to achieve this feat is trust in the Lord with all your heart. Commit your ways to God, and He will direct your paths. When you answer your exam questions, answer them like you are teaching your lecturers, as though you’re explaining to someone who has no idea of what you’re saying,” she added.
