“We Must Rescue Our Constituency From Politics of Many, Benefits for Small Cabal”- POCO Spokesperson

By Boluwatife Adedokun

The newly appointed Official Spokesperson of the Pelumi Olajengbesi Campaign Organisation (POCO), Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, has vowed to make the alleged diversion of public resources and poor representation major issues in the campaign for the 2027 Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency election.

Lawal, in his acceptance statement, said the campaign would seek to “rescue” the constituency from politicians who, according to him, use the politics of many people to serve the interests of a small group.

He said, “We must rescue our constituency from those who play the politics of many people but share the benefits among a small cabal, diverting money meant for our schools, roads, and hospitals into their private pockets.”

The campaign spokesperson said his appointment was not merely a political position but an opportunity to contribute to what he described as the revival and restoration of Ijesa North, stressing that the campaign would focus on credible leadership, truth and purposeful representation.

Lawal said the campaign would be conducted around issues and records rather than personal attacks and unsubstantiated claims.

“We will run a campaign based on issues, not insults. On records, not rumours. On solutions, not sentiments,” he said.

He added that while the campaign would welcome robust debate from political opponents, it would respond firmly to what it considers falsehoods, saying, “We will respond to every falsehood firmly, with superior facts.”

According to him, the campaign would take its message to wards, streets, homes and communities across Oriade and Obokun, including Ijebu-Jesa, Ibokun, Ipetu-Ijesa, Esa-Oke, Ipetu-Ile, Ikeji, Erinmo and Ikinyinwa.

He said the objective was to reach residents who had lost faith in democracy, quality representation and effective legislation, promising that the campaign would focus on identifying problems and offering solutions.

Lawal also said he would speak with facts, courage and loyalty to the ideals represented by the campaign’s principal, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi.

Describing Olajengbesi’s personal journey as part of the campaign’s message, Lawal said the lawyer’s rise from a poor background to building what he described as one of Nigeria’s largest law firms demonstrated that young Nigerians could attain relevance through determination and the support of others.

He said the campaign’s mission was simple: “Rescue, Restore, and Reset Ijesa North.”

Lawal thanked Olajengbesi and the leadership of POCO, led by Prince Adesoji Baderin and Hon. Mayowa Adejorin, for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to carry out his responsibilities with professionalism and integrity.
