The newly appointed spokesperson of the Pelumi Olanjegbesi Campaign Organisation (POCO), Sodiq Lawal, popularly known as Chocomilo, has said the campaign for the House of Representatives seat will rely not on money, political experience or elaborate strategy, but on “God and the good people” of the constituency.
Chocomilo spoke today on Hard Punch, a program on Afinju 90.7 FM, Osogbo, hosted by Boluwatife Ajayi.
Olanjegbesi, a lawyer and politician, is contesting the 2027 House of Representatives election for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency on the platform of the Accord Party.
He previously served as spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign in the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Chocomilo, when asked what gave the campaign confidence that public sentiment would translate into votes, he said the campaign’s strength lay with the electorate.
“We rely on God and the people. We do not rely on any political experience. We do not rely on any strategy. We do not even rely on money,” he said.
He claimed that those who depended on strategies and schemes in the August 2026 governorship election “failed,” while “those who relied on God and the good people succeeded.”
According to him, Olanjegbesi has spent the period since that election moving from town to town, “while others have been exchanging monies because they believe they could guide the conscience of the people.”
Pressed on whether wanting change was enough to defeat an experienced incumbent, Chocomilo said the race was not about political parties or personalities.
“The contest is not between PDP, APC, or any political party. It is not between the incumbent and Olanjegbesi. It is only about the people’s desire for change, for progress, and for communal growth,” he said.
He added, “There is no bigwig in politics. The greatest support any politician could need is the people’s support.”
Responding to the candidate’s description of his campaign as a journey for the “liberation” of the constituency, Chocomilo said residents needed to be freed from “those who play the politics of the many and benefit a small cabal.”
“Those who divert public funds meant for schools, hospitals, and infrastructure into private pockets. Our people need not only change. In the constituency, we have an ongoing revival, and that revival is about restoration and about reset,” he said.
He said the campaign was built on three pillars, beginning with “rescue.”
“We need to rescue our people from the shackles of those who are making the constituency dry,” he said, taking aim at politicians who he said “have been in power for 20 years and cannot point to any bill they sponsored that was assented to by the president.”
