The Osun State Police Command has arraigned a 42-year-old former lecturer, Benjamin Adebisi, before a magistrate court in Osogbo over allegations of defaming the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor Clement Adebooye.
Adebisi appeared before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara on Wednesday, facing four counts of defamation. One of the charges alleges that he used his Facebook account to tarnish the Vice Chancellor’s image, claiming that in the 2016/2017 session, Prof. Adebooye oversaw a 100-level physics practical manual containing significant errors and misinformation.
The formal charge read in part:
“That you, Adebisi Benjamin, did unlawfully publish on social media platforms including Facebook defamatory posts against Professor Popoola, exposing him to hatred, contempt, and ridicule, with intent to damage his professional reputation, contrary to Sections 373 and 375 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State.”
Adebisi also faces charges of falsely representing himself as a UNIOSUN lecturer to mislead the public, and allegedly accusing the Vice Chancellor of siphoning pension interest from an unnamed neurology fellow.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges. Magistrate Ayilara granted him bail of N5 million with two sureties—one a resident of Osogbo with valid documentation and the other a blood relative. He also ordered Adebisi to deposit his international passport with the court.
The case has been adjourned to April 14, 2026, for mention.
