The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of failing to curb rising political violence in the state ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The opposition party made the allegation during a world press conference held on Tuesday at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office in Osogbo, where it claimed supporters of its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, had come under repeated attacks.
Addressing journalists, Director-General of the APC Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, alleged that politically motivated violence, intimidation and harassment were becoming widespread across parts of the state.
The party specifically accused suspected hoodlums linked to the PDP and Accord Party of attacking APC campaign buses in the Owode-Ede area on Tuesday, leaving some supporters injured and campaign materials destroyed.
According to the APC, the incident is part of a growing pattern of violence targeted at opposition supporters in the state.
“Such brazen acts of violence have no place in a democratic society and should concern every well-meaning resident of Osun State,” Oke stated.
The party further alleged that some individuals linked to the state government and wanted by security agencies were still operating freely within the state.
Among those mentioned was Nurudeen Alowonle, whom the APC claimed had previously been arrested with firearms and ammunition, as well as Olalekan Emir Ajagungbade, who the party alleged was facing criminal charges before reportedly jumping bail.
The APC also referenced past killings of some of its members, including former Irewole Local Government Chairman, Hon. Remi Abass, and ward treasurer, Saheed Oyegunju, alleging that justice had yet to be served in both cases.
The opposition party called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to investigate recent violent incidents in Owode-Ede, Ile-Ife and Osogbo.
It urged authorities to arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable, irrespective of political affiliation.
The APC also appealed to the international community, election observers and civil society groups to monitor political developments in Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
The party maintained that it remained committed to peaceful political engagement despite what it described as intimidation and provocation from rival political groups.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had yet to officially respond to the allegations raised by the APC.
