The National Association of University Students Campus Monitoring Committee (NAUS CMC), Oyo State Chapter, is demanding justice for a student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology who was shot by Police Officer Saheed SARS on April 22, 2024.
According to reports, Officer Saheed has a history of involvement in such heinous acts, making it imperative for him to face prosecution.
“We demand the immediate dismissal and prosecution of Officer Saheed SARS, who indiscriminately fired upon innocent students at LAUTECH, resulting in fatalities and injuries. His repeated involvement in such incidents is unacceptable and warrants swift action.”
NAUS CMC emphasizes their call for justice regarding Officer Saheed’s case, stating, “We demand accountability and an end to senseless violence, killings, and harassment. The safety and well-being of all students and citizens must be prioritized.”
In solidarity with NAUS CMC’s pursuit of justice, LAUTECH alumnus Hon. Shina Peller pledges support for their legal endeavors.
Amidst the troubling allegations, a groundswell of voices across Nigeria, particularly those on X (formerly Twitter), is rising, clamoring for decisive action and unwavering justice to be meted out for the victim.
MaiconSFR, through his X handle (previously Twitter), said, “JUSTICE SHOULD BE SERVED ✊”, encapsulating the collective sentiment of many.
In a response to MaiconSFR’s call, another X user, systemking@01, echoed the plea for justice with a poignant display of emotion, typing out a heartfelt appeal: “plz we want justice “.
Similarly, a sense of exasperation and disappointment was palpable in the tweet of a PortHarcourt photographer, who, punctuating his message with a series of exasperated emojis, remarked, “LAUTECH again .” This sentiment, reflective of a broader frustration, underscores the recurring nature of such incidents and the urgent need for systemic change.
However, amidst the chorus of demands for justice, conflicting narratives have emerged. ECLAT MEDIA, a prominent source on X, relayed a statement purportedly from the LAUTECH management, asserting that the victim of the police shooting was not enrolled at the institution.
