Suspected bandits have killed the Alagamo of Agamo, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, following an attack on his palace in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The monarch’s family members recounted that the attackers stormed the palace on Wednesday evening, firing gunshots that forced residents of the Agamo community to flee.
The Olori, who witnessed the incident, said the assailants arrived shortly after the monarch returned from Akure and sat outside the palace to rest.
“He had just returned and decided to sit in front of the palace to relax,” she said.
According to her, about 10 armed men invaded the premises, with some stationed at the entrance while others moved inside. She said she fled into a nearby bush while being pursued.
“They came in shooting. Three of them stood at the entrance while others entered. I ran for my life. One of them chased me, but I escaped into the bush. They shot at me, but I was not hit,” she said.
She added that the attackers dragged the monarch away as she cried out for help, before later attacking him.
“They dragged him while I shouted for help, but no one could come out. They later attacked him on the head and stomach,” she said, noting that the assailants spoke Hausa.
The monarch’s daughter also confirmed the attack, stating that her father repeatedly identified himself as a king while being beaten and taken away by the attackers.
“They kept shooting, and everyone ran. They tried to carry him away, but he kept telling them to leave him. Later, they attacked him with a sharp object,” she said.
She further alleged that the attackers wore clothing similar to that of Fulani herders and gained access to the community through the Itaogbolu axis.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on February 18, 2026.
Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said officers received a report that armed men had taken the monarch from his residence.
“The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene,” the police said.
The command added that the Divisional Police Officer and tactical teams, in collaboration with Amotekun operatives, local hunters and vigilantes, have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Surveillance has been intensified to ensure the safety of residents,” the police said.
