Residents of Dunshigogo community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have been thrown into fear following reports that suspected terrorists sent a threatening letter warning of a possible attack.
According to SaharaReporters, the letter, allegedly delivered to the community, warned residents that armed fighters would soon invade the area. The reported threat has raised alarm due to its similarity to an earlier warning allegedly issued to Woro community in the same local government area before a deadly attack earlier this month.
Sources familiar with the development said the letter triggered panic among residents, forcing some businesses to shut down as families considered fleeing the area over fears of an imminent attack.
A local source told SaharaReporters that the situation had created widespread anxiety in the community, adding that residents were uncertain about where to seek immediate protection.
Efforts by SaharaReporters to independently verify the authenticity of the letter or obtain a copy were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
Security agencies in Kwara State have yet to issue an official statement on the alleged threat.
Kwara State, previously regarded as relatively insulated from large-scale insurgent violence, has in recent years experienced increasing security concerns, particularly in border communities linked by forest corridors connecting parts of the North-Central and North-West regions.
Earlier this month, SaharaReporters reported a deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, where dozens of residents were killed during an assault by suspected armed groups. The incident heightened concerns about the expansion of violent extremist activities into parts of the state.
The reported threat to Dunshigogo has further intensified calls for increased security presence and proactive surveillance in vulnerable rural communities across Kwara State.
