The Publisher of Voice Air Media and the convener of Dive Out With Olorungbotemi (DOWOB), Comrade Bright Olorungbotemi, has announced the seventh edition of the annual virtual lecture series, which will focus on the growing migration of Nigerian youths in search of better opportunities abroad.
The event, themed “The Migration of Nigerian Youths for Greener Pastures,” is scheduled to hold virtually on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. It is expected to bring together youths, students, professionals and other stakeholders from Nigeria and the diaspora for discussions on one of the country’s most topical socio-economic issues.
According to the organisers, this year’s lecture will examine the factors driving the increasing migration of young Nigerians, the implications for national development and possible strategies for creating opportunities that encourage young people to thrive within the country.
A Nigerian-German-based professional, Bankole Akinselure, popularly known as Banky, will deliver the keynote lecture. He is expected to share insights from his personal and professional experiences, offering practical perspectives on migration, career development and opportunities both within and outside Nigeria.
The programme will also feature a giveaway session aimed at empowering participants and encouraging active engagement throughout the event.
Speaking ahead of the lecture, Olorungbotemi said the initiative was conceived to create a platform for meaningful conversations around migration, brain drain, youth empowerment, community development and nation-building.
“The annual programme is organised to commemorate my birthday by giving back to society. The first edition was held in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, and since then, it has continued to grow and make meaningful impact year after year,” he said.
He noted that the increasing wave of migration among Nigerian youths, popularly referred to as the “Japa” phenomenon, makes it imperative to have open and informed conversations on the subject.
“We cannot ignore the ‘Japa’ trend. This lecture is designed to help young people make informed decisions, whether they choose to remain in Nigeria and contribute to nation-building or pursue opportunities abroad,” Olorungbotemi added.
He invited members of the public to participate in the virtual event, describing it as an opportunity for learning, dialogue and empowerment.
The organisers said interested participants can join the programme through the official WhatsApp community link, while enquiries and partnership requests are also welcomed through the same platform.
