The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a scathing statement demanding that former Commissioner for Finance, Bola Oyebamiji, clarify his alleged involvement in the controversial sale of Osun Living Trust Bank to what the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently declared a Ponzi scheme.
In a statement signed by the party’s Council on Public Communications, the PDP alleged that Oyebamiji, who is widely believed to be nursing a governorship ambition, was at the centre of what it described as a “corruption-ridden transaction” that saw a key state financial institution fall into fraudulent hands.
“Before Mr. Oyebamiji, aka Amunbo, throws his hat into the governorship race, he must come clean about the shady sale of Osun Living Trust Bank while he served as Commissioner for Finance.
A major state asset was disposed of under criminal circumstances. On behalf of the Osun people, we demand explanations,” the statement read.
The party also accused Oyebamiji of inciting political tension during the recent coronation ceremony of the Owa Adimula of Ijesaland, claiming he imported “lorry loads of thugs” in defiance of warnings from the palace.
“Why did he flout the directive of Owa Adimula and turn a traditional event into a political showdown? Has he apologised to Ijesa people for the disruption?” the party queried.
The PDP also linked the All Progressives Congress (APC) — Oyebamiji’s party — to earlier opposition against the newly installed monarch, alleging that some APC elements challenged the royal selection in court.
According to the statement, the PDP intends to raise further questions about Oyebamiji’s tenure as Finance Commissioner and his current role as head of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), promising to unveil more allegations in the coming weeks.
