The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, has expelled five members, including Comrade Nwabufo Nwankwo, following an investigation into allegations of misconduct, unauthorized fundraising, and actions deemed contrary to the council’s constitution and ethical standards.
The disciplinary action was announced in a notice issued on June 19, 2026, by the Executive Committee of the council and signed by the Acting Chairman of NYCN Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Okoye Ugochukwu Godwin.
According to the statement, the decision followed a painstaking investigation into multiple complaints and reports concerning activities considered prejudicial to the interests, integrity, and constitutional provisions of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
The affected individuals are Comrade Nwabufo Nwankwo, Comrade Frank Maduka, Comrade Emeka Ementa, Comrade Ernest Nnolim, and Comrade Nkem Amene.
The Executive Committee stated that after reviewing the findings and deliberating extensively on the matter, members unanimously resolved to expel the five individuals from the council with immediate effect.
The council alleged that investigations revealed their involvement in the unauthorized solicitation of funds from Anambra youths and the making of promises regarding appointments and positions within the council outside the established constitutional process of free, fair, and credible elections.
NYCN Anambra described the alleged actions as a gross violation of the principles upon which the council is founded, noting that such conduct undermines public trust and threatens the credibility of youth leadership institutions.
“The decision was reached based on findings of conduct deemed inconsistent with the Constitution, values, objectives and ethical standards of the National Youth Council of Nigeria,” the statement noted.
The council further stated that the expelled members would no longer enjoy any rights, privileges, recognition, or authority associated with membership of the organization.
Particular concern was expressed over the alleged involvement of Comrade Nwabufo Nwankwo, who serves as a Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Anambra State.
According to the council, public office holders are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and public service, adding that any conduct capable of eroding public confidence should be avoided.
The Executive Committee urged government agencies, institutions, development partners, stakeholders, and members of the public to refrain from engaging with the expelled individuals on behalf of the council.
It stressed that the affected persons no longer possess the authority to represent, negotiate, transact, speak, or act for the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter.
The council further declared that any representation, undertaking, promise, appointment, financial transaction, or commitment made by the expelled individuals in the name of NYCN should be regarded as null, void, and unauthorized.
Reaffirming its commitment to accountability and transparency, NYCN Anambra said it remains focused on promoting responsible youth leadership, constitutional order, and the protection of the council’s integrity.
Acting Chairman of the chapter, Comrade Okoye Ugochukwu Godwin, emphasized that the disciplinary action was necessary to safeguard the reputation of the organization and maintain public confidence in its activities.
He reiterated that the expulsion takes immediate effect and urged all stakeholders to deal only with duly recognized representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter.
