The Action Peoples Party (APP) in Osun State has called for a peaceful and violence-free governorship election, urging residents to come out en masse and exercise their civic rights on August 15.
The party made the call on Monday during a one-day interdenominational prayer service organised by its state leadership to seek divine intervention for a peaceful electoral process.
Speaking at the event, the Osun State Chairman of the party, Odesola Oluseye, said the prayer was an expression of the party’s commitment to peace and responsible participation in the election.
“We prayed for peace, protection and the safe participation of every voter in Osun,” Oluseye said.
He urged party members and other residents to come out in large numbers on election day and protect their votes through lawful and peaceful means.
“We call on our members and all citizens of Osun to come out in their numbers on 15 August 2026 to cast their votes and to stand ready — lawfully and peacefully — to protect those votes.
“The continuity of the good work of this present administration depends on our participation and vigilance at the polling booths,” he said.
The party’s governorship candidate, Banji Adesuyi, also called on voters and political actors to reject violence and intimidation, saying the ballot box remained the proper avenue for determining the people’s choice.
“Democracy is defended most powerfully at the ballot box,” Adesuyi said.
He urged stakeholders to respect the people’s mandate and uphold the rule of law before, during and after the election.
“We urge, and ensure that the mandate of the people is respected. Let us reject intimidation and violence, affirm the rule of law, and work together so that the progress we have made can continue for the benefit of every family in Osun,” he said.
The APP leadership also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other political actors to ensure that the election is conducted freely, fairly and peacefully.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to what it described as constructive engagement, lawful civic action and the protection of democratic processes.
It further urged residents, irrespective of political affiliation, to contribute to a peaceful election by turning out to vote, reporting threats to the appropriate authorities and respecting fellow citizens and electoral institutions.
