The Enugu State Government has commenced the construction of a new International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Market at 9th Mile, near Enugu, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
This initiative, revealed by Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, the Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, took place during a meeting with the leadership of the Enugu Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Association, Coal Camp, Enugu. This market fulfills Governor Peter Mbah’s electoral promise to establish a world-class market for the association.
The announcement has sparked a variety of reactions from the public, primarily shared on social media.
In a reaction by a Facebook user, Oluwatunmise Idowu he expressed deep appreciation for the development, stating, “May God continue to expend your vision more and more in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. I really appreciate your contribution to the development of our nation. Thank you my people from the eastern part of Nigeria.”
Another user, Grant Iyke Donatus, emphasized the need for industrial growth, commenting, “We need more factories.”
In a more positive way, Izu Oduche acknowledged the strategic significance of the governor’s actions, saying, “This Gov is making some strategic moves. Kudos.”
Ede Francis, a Facebook user, was welcoming of the initiative, stating, “It’s a welcome development, my able Governor. Keep it up.”
Frank Jones saw this as a positive step towards urban development, noting, “Good initiative, we need to open up Enugu.”
Meanwhile, Gerald Emeka pointed out the congestion in the existing market and inquired about infrastructure, “Certainly, Coal Camp is seriously congested, but hope the dual road leading to the site is in serious good condition?”
Another facebook user, EJ Son saw this as a positive development for the state, “Welcome developments to my state.” he said
Prince Iyke hoped for the project’s successful completion, stating, “I wish it will come to pass. Creating international motor spare parts will bring development and improve the economy.”
Facebook user, Uchenna Nwaneri predicted rapid urbanization for the area, saying, “9th mile will soon be another town (urban area) on its own. Well done.”
In a reaction otherwise, Samuel Otigba Okeke suggested an alternative focus, “There is a lot of motor spare parts in Anambra state, build factories, forget the market.” he said.
Also, Dozie Fontana proposed a different strategy, “Can’t you initiate and build a factory where those parts can be fabricated instead…?” he said.
E Sky Sax Maker clarified the location, “The name of the place is called Imezi Owa in Ezeagu LGA.”
Chijioke Chijioke praised the governor, saying, “Peter Mbah is working.”
