The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasized the significance of investing in women to accelerate progress, stating that it is crucial for nation-building.

In a statement released to commemorate IWD, Mrs. Tinubu stated the significance of this year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” as a call to action. 

She emphasized that investing in women is crucial for nation-building and is a pathway to ensure progress.

“Equipping women with education, resources, and opportunities to unleash their full potential, supporting their businesses, dismantling economic barriers, and ensuring their voices are heard is a crucial step,” she said.

Mrs. Tinubu urged women to come together, bond, and support one another, emphasizing that collective efforts will accelerate progress. 

She highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration among women, stating that together, they can achieve remarkable results.

Recognizing the immense talent base of the world’s population, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the significant contributions of women to the development of nations and their economic, social, and political potential.

She recalled the initiatives launched by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to improve the lives of women across Nigeria, such as the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and the Girl Child Education Programme.

Mrs. Tinubu also highlighted a recent women’s empowerment program initiated by President Bola Tinubu, titled “P-Bat Cares for Nigerian Women,” aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment and social inclusion in the country.

Additionally, she mentioned the World Bank’s approval of $500 million for Nigeria in 2023 to support women’s programs, emphasizing the importance of investing in and improving the livelihood of women in Nigeria.
