Oladimeji Aloba, known by his stage name Mohbad, was a former signee of Marlian Records who tragically passed away at the age of 27 on Tuesday, following a brief undisclosed illness. The sad news was confirmed by Music Executive Ovie Ofugara on his Twitter page on Tuesday evening.

Family Background:

Mohbad, born on the 8th of 1996, hailed from the Oladimeji family and grew up in Jetu, Lagos State. While details about his education are not widely known, an online source indicates that he attended primary and secondary school in Lagos State. He was married to Wumi, with whom he had a son.

Musical Journey

Mohbad, a singer and rapper, embarked on his career by sharing freestyles and covers of popular songs on social media to gain mainstream attention. His talent caught the eye of Nigerian music superstar Naira Marley, who signed him to Marlian Music alongside Zinoleesky, Fabian Blu, and Cbluck. Marley announced their signings simultaneously on Instagram. Mohbad was known for blending Yoruba dialect with English in his music, often drawing comparisons to Zlatan Ibile due to their similar vocal styles.

Music Career

Throughout his career, Mohbad collaborated with various artists, including Zlatan Ibile, Lil Kesh, Oladipe, Small Doctor, Bella Shmurda, and Lil Frosh. In the fourth quarter of 2020, he released his debut album “LIGHT” following the success of his viral song “PONMO,” featuring Naira Marley and Lil Frosh, under the Marlian Records label. In 2021, he received five nominations at the Beatz Awards and was listed among Audiomack’s Top 20 Afrobeat artists of the year.

In 2022, after parting ways with Marlian Records, he released his highest-charting song, “PEACE.”
