Competence Must Define Leadership, Not Popularity — APC Aspirant, Dr. Sesan Sanusi

By Boluwatife Adedokun

An aspirant seeking to represent Olorunda State Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Sesan Sanusi, has said political leadership and legislative representation should be driven by competence, intellectual depth and leadership capacity rather than mere popularity.

Speaking with journalists, Dr. Sanusi said modern governance requires individuals with sound educational background, strategic thinking and the ability to contribute meaningfully to policymaking and legislative debates.

According to him, the increasing demand for quality representation across the country reflects the growing expectations of citizens for leaders capable of addressing societal challenges with knowledge and vision.

“Leadership today must go beyond political visibility alone. People are now looking for representatives who can think critically, understand complex issues and contribute meaningfully to governance and development,” he said.

Dr. Sanusi, who holds a Doctorate Degree in Mathematics from the University of South Wales, noted that lawmakers must possess the intellectual and analytical capacity required to sponsor impactful bills and influence policies that directly benefit the people.

“At a time when voters are demanding quality representation and policy-driven leadership, it becomes important for aspirants to demonstrate competence, exposure and the ability to provide practical solutions to societal problems,” he added.

The APC aspirant further stated that effective legislative representation requires more than political recognition, stressing that lawmakers must be capable of constructive engagement on economic, educational and developmental matters.

“Legislative responsibilities require people who are intellectually mobile, people who can engage in meaningful debates, move motions and support policies that can positively impact their constituency and the state at large,” he said.

Dr. Sanusi also described the All Progressives Congress as a political platform that continues to value competence, administrative strength and leadership capacity in governance.

“As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the Olorunda State Constituency contest, constituents will continue to assess aspirants based on competence, character, accessibility and vision,” he said.
