- Technology expert, Osundare Osundare, has said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can provide solutions to Nigeria’s challenges in healthcare, agriculture, and education if the country invests in the right infrastructure and policies.
Osundare explained that AI is already being used globally to improve disease detection, boost agricultural yields, and expand learning opportunities, stressing that Nigeria risks being left behind without deliberate adoption.
“In healthcare, AI can help rural clinics detect malaria or diabetes early without requiring specialists. Farmers can use AI tools for weather forecasting, soil monitoring, and crop management, while in education, AI tutors can enable students in remote areas to learn at their own pace,” he said.
He listed poor internet infrastructure, limited research funding, and weak policy frameworks as key obstacles but noted that Nigeria’s entrepreneurial drive could foster innovation if supported by government and private sector investments.
According to him, Nigeria must not remain a passive consumer in the global AI economy projected to generate trillions of dollars in the coming decade. “Artificial intelligence isn’t the future anymore — it’s the present. Nigeria cannot afford to watch from the sidelines. We must build, invest, and lead,” he added.
