The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in Osun State and Senator representing Obokun/Oriade Senatorial District, Hon. Oluwole Oke, has declared that the APC is fully prepared to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, insisting that the ruling administration has failed in governance, service delivery and public welfare.
Speaking during a media chat with Osun Online Publishers on Tuesday, Oke said the APC has a strong political history of removing sitting governors in Osun State and expressed confidence that Adeleke would be voted out in the coming election.
“We are very good at removing sitting governors. I have participated in removing about two governors in this state, and the third one will be on August 15,” Oke said.
According to the APC campaign DG, the strategy of the opposition party ahead of the election would be centred on engaging residents and convincing them that the present administration has not been fair to the people.
“It is about strategy, it is about engagement, it is about telling Osun people that they deserve better, about convincing Osun people that the incumbent government is not fair to them. They have failed, they have looted your money,” he stated.
Oke accused the Adeleke administration of poor performance across key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, water supply, agriculture and security, alleging that many residents have lost confidence in government institutions.
“Go to public schools in Osun, go to rural areas. The farmers can’t even take their children to public schools because they have lost confidence in government institutions,” he said.
The senator lamented the condition of public schools in the state, alleging inadequate teachers and lack of learning materials.
“In the education sector, we can see that we have no teachers in classrooms, we don’t have instructional materials, and how do we raise future leaders when the foundation is weak?” he queried.
Oke also criticised the state of healthcare facilities, claiming that many primary healthcare centres and general hospitals are in poor condition.
“We also move around the health sector. All our primary healthcare centres and general hospitals are in bad shape. No equipment, no personnel, and how do they attend to the people?” he said.
On water supply, the APC chieftain alleged that many residents now depend on streams for drinking water because government has failed to provide potable water.
“There is no water supply. They go to streams infected with so many diseases to fetch water to drink. We will stop that. We will develop surface water, improve our dams and refurbish them to provide people with quality, portable and drinkable water,” Oke stated.
He further alleged that residents now provide almost every basic necessity for themselves despite paying taxes to government.
“In Osun today, every citizen is a government to himself. You provide your water, you provide your electricity, you go to private hospitals, you go to private schools, and yet they ask you to pay tax. So what is the benefit of that government to the citizens?” he asked.
Oke insisted that the APC would continue to focus its campaign on governance and public issues rather than political sentiments.
“These are the issues. We in APC speak to issues. We don’t just talk anyhow. We address governance and we have been able to establish that this government is not doing anything for the citizens,” he added.
The senator also faulted ongoing road projects under the Adeleke administration, describing some of them as substandard and poorly executed.
“Talking about roads, they have poorly constructed roads. Go to the road they are doing from Ota-Ile to Ilare to Esa-Odo, whenever there is rainfall, it washes away,” he alleged.
“In terms of service delivery and value addition, I score this government zero,” he declared.
Oke further claimed that Governor Adeleke was already aware of an impending defeat in the governorship election.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke is already packing his bags out of government. You can see he is no longer going to parties dancing. He is already packing his bags and baggage out of government,” he said.
Assessing the administration’s overall performance over the last three years, the lawmaker said the governor had shown limitations in capacity, understanding of policy, finances and governance.
“My assessment of the present government is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has tried his best. We have seen his capacity and what he can do, and we have also seen what he cannot do. He has limitations in terms of capacity, understanding of policy, finances and governance,” Oke stated.
The APC campaign DG also raised concerns over insecurity in parts of the state, alleging that some residents now live in fear due to banditry threats and criminal activities.
“In Osun today, people are scared. There is suffering and banditry. For our local governments that are in the hands of APC, we have been able to provide motorcycles for our law enforcement agencies,” he said.
He maintained that the August 15 governorship election would be determined by issues of governance, accountability and the welfare of residents, expressing confidence that the APC would reclaim power in the state.
