Unity of Yorubaland Lies in Alaafin-Ooni Relationship – Oba Oyelude Makama

The Olowu of Owu-Kuta Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, CON, has called for unity among Yoruba monarchs, stressing that harmony between traditional rulers is critical to the peace and progress of Yorubaland.

Oba Makama made the call on Tuesday while receiving the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akeem Owoade I, at his palace in Kuta, Ayedire Local Government Area of Osun State.

The significant royal event attracted a cheerful crowd of indigenes and dignitaries from within and outside the town. The Alaafin arrived in grand style, accompanied by his Olori, members of his royal cabinet, traditional aides, and a delegation of chiefs from Oyo.

Speaking during the reception, the Olowu of Kuta expressed gratitude to the Alaafin for honouring the ancient town with his presence. He emphasized the importance of unity among Yoruba monarchs, especially between the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife.

Kabiyesi, your visit is historic, and myself and the people of Kuta will remain grateful. We are happy to receive you,” Oba Makama said.

I implore you to place the unity of Yoruba Obas at the forefront of your reign. The relationship between you and the Oonirisa is key to the unity of Yorubaland. During the reign of Alaafin Adeyemi, he made significant contributions towards strengthening relationships among Yoruba Obas.”

The monarch further praised the Alaafin for promoting Yoruba culture and tradition, which he described as the bedrock of identity and heritage.

I am happy to see your efforts in promoting our traditions. We must never allow our culture to fade, as it is our foundation,” Oba Makama added.

In his response, the Alaafin of Oyo expressed appreciation to the Olowu of Kuta, his Olori, the royal council, and the people of Owu-Kuta for the warm and elaborate reception.

Oba Owoade noted that the message of unity shared by Oba Makama gladdened his heart, adding that his royal visits across Yorubaland are meant to promote peace and cohesion among monarchs.

I am grateful for the honour and the kind reception. The call for unity is deeply appreciated and aligns with my vision for a united Yorubaland,” the Alaafin stated.

This visit is one of many, and we hope it fosters stronger bonds across Yoruba palaces.”
