The Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council has accused the Imole Campaign Council of politicising the death of Ajayi Aderogba, insisting that the tragic incident should be left to security agencies for thorough investigation rather than public speculation.
The campaign council, led by the Director-General, Hon. Oluwole Oke, made the allegation in a statement issued on Thursday by his Senior Media Aide, Omolebi-Sunday Segun Tunde, while responding to an earlier statement by the Imole Campaign Council.
The APC campaign council described Aderogba’s death as a tragedy, expressing condolences to his family, friends and associates, but maintained that assigning blame before the conclusion of police investigations was inappropriate.
“It is inappropriate for any political group to assign blame before the conclusion of investigations by law enforcement authorities,” the statement read.
The council argued that allowing security agencies to discharge their constitutional responsibilities remained the proper path to justice, warning that public accusations made without judicial determination could undermine ongoing investigations and further heighten political tension in the state.
Responding to calls by the Imole Campaign Council for Hon. Oluwole Oke to produce an individual allegedly linked to the incident, the APC campaign council dismissed the demand, saying such responsibilities fall exclusively within the jurisdiction of law enforcement agencies.
“If any person or organisation possesses credible evidence relating to the incident, such evidence should be submitted to the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies rather than being litigated in the media,” the statement added.
The council also rejected attempts to link Oke to the incident, describing the allegations as premature and politically motivated, while stressing that every citizen remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
It further stated that Oke would not shield anyone found culpable if investigations establish criminal responsibility.
Reiterating its call for justice, the APC campaign council urged the Osun State Police Command and other security agencies to conduct what it described as a comprehensive, transparent and unbiased investigation free from political interference or media pressure.
“The individuals responsible for Ajayi Aderogba’s death must be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law. Justice must be based on evidence, due process and the rule of law, not political accusations,” the statement said.
The latest statement comes amid growing political exchanges between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State over the circumstances surrounding Aderogba’s death, with both camps advancing conflicting narratives while investigations by security agencies continue.
