As various campus elections approach in Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, we’ve undertaken the responsibility of interviewing aspirants to learn about their plans for the students. 

In an exclusive interview, we spoke with an aspirant running for the position of president in the Faculty of Social Sciences (SOSSA), known as Omogbemi Ojo Oluwamayowa, alias Mayor King.

Introduce yourself briefly:

I’m Hon. Omogbemi Ojo Oluwamayowa, commonly known as Mayor King. Hailing from the Idanre local government area of Ondo State, I’m a 400-level student in the Department of Criminology and Security Studies within the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Have you held any political positions at AAUA?

Certainly. I hold the distinction of being the inaugural Social Sciences (SOSSA) chief whip, serving two terms as SOSSA Honourable, and leading the Criminology and Security Studies Caucus for a term.

How will you manage the faculty if elected, given your AAUA unionism experience?

Managing the faculty will be manageable due to my representation at both departmental and faculty levels. I’ve received guidance and advice from experienced individuals, making it easier to ensure an inclusive government that values student input. My focus includes financial support and scholarships for less privileged students.

What is your mandate for students?

My vision for SOSSA includes diverse incentives beyond books, an inclusive government, and financial support for less privileged students. These are just a glimpse of my agenda, and detailed plans will be shared through a sectional engagement platform.

How do you plan to achieve your goals?

I do not only have goals but also well-crafted plans to achieve them. The details will be shared, showcasing our readiness to deliver feasible goals.

Why are you fit for this task?

I believe I possess the necessary leadership potential and a well-formulated agenda to address the challenges within the Faculty. My motivation stems from a genuine desire to contribute distinctive leadership skills for a better academic environment.

What motivates you?

My motivation arises from the passion to lead and contribute my distinct leadership skills for a safer academic environment that all SOSSAItes can rely on.

Advice to SOSSAItes:

Prioritize academics, maintain good behavior, and foster a friendly, positive environment. Unionism should prepare us for the future, avoiding unnecessary conflicts. It’s not a do-or-die situation.
