Osun 2026: PDP Hails Survey Showing 66% Support for Adeleke

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has lauded the results of a recent independent survey that projects Governor Ademola Adeleke as the clear front-runner ahead of the July 2026 gubernatorial election.

The party described the findings, released by Geopolitics Survey International (GSI), as a confirmation of Adeleke’s rising popularity and the PDP’s growing dominance at the grassroots level.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the PDP welcomed the survey’s outcome, which places the party at 65% voter preference and Governor Adeleke at 66% support among respondents.

“This is not just a number—it is the voice of the Osun people declaring their satisfaction, trust, and hope in a governor who has consistently prioritized their welfare,” the PDP said.

The party emphasized that the results reflect the public’s acknowledgment of Governor Adeleke’s performance, citing his accessibility, infrastructure development, and inclusive governance style as key factors driving support.

According to the survey conducted between April 20 and May 20, 2025, and involving 45,000 respondents across Osun’s nine federal constituencies, performance and track record emerged as the top reason behind voting preferences—accounting for 80% of responses.

The PDP dismissed concerns over recent defections from the party, labeling them “inconsequential” and claiming the exits have instead energized the party base.

“The so-called defections of known double agents have had zero negative impact. In fact, their exit has opened more room for genuine party faithful and fresh grassroots leaders,” the statement added.

In response to the momentum, the PDP announced the launch of a state-wide grassroots activation campaign to consolidate support, educate voters, and ensure seamless mobilization ahead of the 2026 polls.

“Our party is a mass movement powered by the people of Osun who are determined never to return to the era of maladministration and elitist neglect.”

The party urged opposition parties, particularly the APC, to take note of what it called “the clear writing on the wall.”

“Osun is not for sale. The people have spoken through this independent survey, and they will speak even louder on August 8, 2026, by re-electing Governor Ademola Adeleke with an even more commanding majority.”

Geopolitics Survey International (GSI), a non-partisan research group, had earlier on Sunday released the first in a four-part survey series analyzing political trends in Osun. The findings were presented by GSI lead consultant, Dr. Adeyemo Adeyefa, who explained that academics from the University of Ilesa were involved to ensure data accuracy and a minimal margin of error.

According to the GSI breakdown:

  • PDP leads with 65% of voter preference,

  • APC follows with 25%,

  • Other parties account for 10%.

In terms of individual candidates, Governor Ademola Adeleke leads with 66%, while others trail significantly:

  • Bola Oyebamiji (8%)

  • Iyiola Omisore (6%)

  • Bashiru Suraju (5%)

  • Najeem Salami (5%)

  • Moshood Adeoti (4%)

  • Undecided (6%)

The group said three more survey reports will be released ahead of the 2026 election.
