Osun 2026: APC Affirms Oyebamiji as Consensus Candidate

Ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, a former two-term Commissioner for Finance, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oyebamiji was affirmed as the party’s flagbearer at the APC governorship primary election held on Saturday in Osogbo, the state capital.

Announcing the decision, a former governorship aspirant, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, said the affirmation followed the directive of the APC National Working Committee, adding that all other aspirants had agreed to step down for Oyebamiji.

“I, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, with the consent of all other aspirants, hereby move the motion that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji be adopted as the consensus candidate of the APC for the 2026 governorship election. I so move,” Adegoke said.

The motion was seconded by a former Senator representing Osun East, Babajide Omoworare, after which delegates adopted Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate.

Subsequently, all 1,660 accredited delegates present at the primary reportedly voted in his favour.

Other aspirants present at the primary included a former Deputy Governor of the state, Benedict Alabi; Akin Ogunbiyi; Dotun Babayemi; Mulikat Abiola-Jimoh; and Oralusi.

The Chairman of the Osun APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, later formally announced Oyebamiji as the party’s governorship candidate.

In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji called on other aspirants and party members to close ranks and work collectively towards securing victory for the APC at the 2026 general election.

He also observed a one-minute silence in honour of the late immediate past APC Chairman in Osun State, Oba Famodun, as well as a former local government chairman, Hon. Abass, who was killed during the recent local government leadership crisis in the state.
