The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Diaspora has issued a strong warning against what it described as statements capable of undermining national peace and stability, urging public figures and stakeholders to act responsibly in their communication.
In a statement signed by Amb. Collins Osazee Idahosa, Vice President of NYCN Diaspora and Governor of NYCN Europe Chapter, the organization stressed that Nigeria’s fragile unity must not be exposed to rhetoric that could inflame tensions or trigger unrest.
The council expressed concern over recent comments reportedly linked to former Niger Delta militant leader and traditional monarch, Asari Dokubo, noting that any suggestion of violence or confrontation against a section of the country is unacceptable and counterproductive to national development.
NYCN Diaspora emphasized that in a diverse nation like Nigeria, words from influential figures carry significant weight and must therefore be handled with utmost responsibility to avoid misinterpretation or escalation of tensions.
According to the group, Edo State remains a key component of the Nigerian federation with deep cultural, historical, and socio-economic relevance, and must never be subjected to threats or intimidation under any circumstance.
The organization warned that escalating rhetoric could distract from urgent national priorities such as economic recovery, youth empowerment, and security reforms.
It further called on traditional rulers, political actors, and opinion leaders to prioritize unity and restraint in their public engagements, stressing that peacebuilding requires deliberate and consistent responsible communication.
NYCN Diaspora noted that Nigerian youths have already been significantly affected by insecurity and economic challenges, adding that they should not be further exposed to narratives that could increase tension or division.
The group also urged security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that public statements capable of disrupting peace are properly assessed within constitutional frameworks.
Beyond warnings, the council called for renewed national focus on dialogue, civic responsibility, and youth-driven development initiatives as sustainable tools for strengthening unity.
It encouraged young Nigerians in the diaspora and at home to reject divisive rhetoric and instead channel their energy into innovation, civic engagement, and constructive nation-building efforts.
Reaffirming its position, NYCN Diaspora stated that national cohesion must remain a top priority, adding that responsible leadership and communication are essential to Nigeria’s stability.
