Nigerians have expressed concern over the recent kidnapping in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
The Punch reported that “no fewer than two persons have been kidnapped in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory”.
It was gathered that unknown gunmen stormed the area in the early hours of Sunday and kidnapped two residents.
The FCT police command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and added that the victims have been rescued and the suspects are being trailed.
Despite this swift response of the police, residents of the area are worried and perturbed about the incident.
Nigerians have taken to facebook to make known their concerns and agitations towards the sudden occurrence.
The residents and other concerned Nigerians are worried about their safety and implored the government and the security operatives to rise up to their responsibility and ensure their safety.
Reacting with his facebook account, Patrick Henry said, “I live in Mpape, now I’m scared”.
Cletus Obiegbu said, “the security operatives should rise up to their responsibility”.
Moreso, reacting to the news, a Facebook user with the username ‘Dayo Mathew Oni’ said, “I think it’s high time they start killing kidnappers or bandits.
They make people suffer when they kidnap them and later request for their family fortune before they are released”.
Another concerned Nigerian, Akira George reacted, “Haba! Mpape again! They just released my cousin last month”.
Gabrielles Ogunfoljin said, “No place is safe in our land anymore. Criminals are everywhere, with no place secured”.
Freeman Freeman in his comment also said, “Nigeria is the most corrupt country in the world. All they produce are terrorists, drug Baron, criminals and looters as leaders”.
Another user in the comment section, Okoanna Andrew said, “Agbero kidnappers have invaded Abuja. Nigeria of yesterday has turned to gun runners state. May God help Nigeria”.
A Facebook user with the name Iwanger noted, ‘I felt like the kidnapping was an attempt to divert the president’s attention.
She added, “I already knew they would want to distract our president’s attention from the good work he has started. Their plans will fail by God’s grace”.
However, some Nigerians also expressed their faith in the Nigerian government and the security operatives.
Orkuma Simon said, “The era of kidnapping will surely come to an end”. Alphonsus Alubo also said, “Days of peace will return, God willing”.
