Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the current Balogun of Ibadanland, poised to succeed the late Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun as the next Olubadan of Ibadan, follows the tradition of symbolic ascension with drummers and chanters moving from Alli-Iwo to his Ita Baale palace.
The passing of Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun, announced by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, marks a transition, as both he and the incoming Olubadan hail from Ibadan North East Local Government of Oyo State.
Sunbo Owolabi, son of Olakulehin, served as commissioner for water resources during Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi’s tenure as governor.
Traditionally, the succession order after Olakulehin includes Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and senator, representing the civil line as Otun Olubadan of Ibadan.
The demise of Oba Balogun and the forthcoming induction of a new Olubadan will result in advancements within the Olubadan system, notably within the Balogun line where the new Olubadan will emerge.
