Journalists Rescued by Police Amid Threats as Trial of Adeleke Ally Persists

Armed policemen intervened on Tuesday to rescue three journalists covering the trial of Oyeyemi Olalekan, an associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke facing charges of terrorism and killings.

The journalists found themselves under threat from thugs aligned with the defendant, who had vowed to kidnap and harm them outside the courtroom.

After the trial concluded, the journalists were held up inside the courtroom for about 40 minutes as the thugs loomed outside.

The Osun State Police Command swiftly responded to the situation and evacuated the journalists to safety, while the thugs hurled verbal threats.

Inside the courtroom, defense counsel Edmund Biriomoni pressed for bail, citing seven grounds, while the prosecution, represented by Francis Osie, opposed the application, invoking Sections 162 and 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice, 2015.

Biriomoni argued that bail is at the discretion of the court, emphasizing the importance of fair consideration.

Justice Ayoola reserved ruling on the bail application, with the date of the ruling to be communicated later.

The trial of Oyeyemi Olalekan continues amidst heightened tensions and concerns for the safety of journalists covering the proceedings. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
