The Executive Director of the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development (IICSD) and Team Lead of the Osun Open Local Government Project (OsunOpenLG), Jare Tiamiyu, has been selected as part of the Nigerian delegation to the African Youth Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit in Accra, Ghana.
Tiamiyu, who is participating under the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) delegation, is expected to present the OsunOpenLG Project and its efforts to promote citizen participation, transparency and accountability in local government administration in Osun State.
According to a statement by the Communications Officer of IICSD, Sodiq Yusuf, the presentation will focus on how the project is enhancing public engagement in governance through improved access to local government information and the creation of platforms that foster constructive interaction between citizens and public officials.
The statement noted that Tiamiyu would share lessons from Osun State on the use of civic technology, citizen mobilisation and social accountability mechanisms to strengthen democratic governance at the grassroots level.
A major highlight of his presentation, according to the organisation, will be the showcasing of Amòye, an artificial intelligence-powered civic-tech platform developed under the OsunOpenLG Project and launched in October 2025.
Described as Nigeria’s first AI chatbot dedicated to open government, citizen engagement and local government administration, Amòye provides users with information on local governance, public institutions, civic rights and accountability mechanisms.
The organisation said Tiamiyu would demonstrate how the platform is leveraging artificial intelligence to bridge information gaps between citizens and government institutions, simplify access to governance-related information and encourage greater participation in democratic processes.
“The presentation will further highlight the role of emerging technologies in strengthening transparency, expanding civic education and fostering responsive governance across African communities,” the statement read.
IICSD also disclosed that the chatbot has been upgraded to provide civic education on elections, simplify electoral laws and support residents with information relating to the electoral process.
The organisation explained that the OsunOpenLG Project has become one of the leading civic engagement initiatives focused on promoting transparency, accountability and citizen participation in local government administration through community outreach, governance advocacy, transparency scorecards and citizen-led monitoring activities.
The African Youth SDGs Summit is expected to bring together young leaders, policymakers, development practitioners, innovators and civil society actors from across the continent to exchange ideas and explore solutions aimed at advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
IICSD said Tiamiyu’s participation presents an opportunity to showcase the successes and impact of the OsunOpenLG Project before a continental audience while contributing to discussions on youth leadership, civic technology, democratic accountability and sustainable development.
The organisation added that his selection as part of the NYFF delegation reflects the growing recognition of youth-led governance initiatives and the role of young people in advancing transparency, civic participation and institutional accountability across Africa.
