Concerned Muslim Brothers Accuse Oyetola, Fagbemi of Withholding Osun LG Funds

An Islamic pressure group, Concerned Muslim Brothers (CMB), has condemned the continued withholding of Osun State local government funds, accusing the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of engaging in actions it described as “anti-Allah” and “anti-people.”

In protest letters signed by  Ustaz Jamiu Akorede Ajenisua, State Coordinator of the association  addressed to the leadership of the League of Imams and Alfas and the Presidency, the group alleged that the ministers were behind the non-release of allocations meant for Osun councils since February 2025.

CMB warned that the development amounted to oppression, repression, and victimisation of Osun people—many of whom, they noted, are Muslims. The group called on prominent Islamic leaders to intervene, describing the alleged withholding of funds as un-Islamic and harmful to grassroots development.

The letters were sent to key Muslim leaders including the Chief Imam of Ado Ekiti (Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas, South West), the Chief Imam of Ilorin, the Chief Imam of Offa, the Chief Imam of Osogbo, the Grand Mufti of Ilorin, the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), the Deputy President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Sharia, Sheikh Isa Akindele, Sheikh Daud Molaasan, and the Emir of Ilorin.

According to the group, the funds in question are largely meant for primary school teachers, local government pensioners, community health facilities, and traditional rulers.

“Islam preaches justice and fairness, especially for those in positions of authority,” the group wrote. “We call on you, in the name of Allah, to remind these two ministers of their duty to uphold fairness and to fear Allah.”
