The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, has criticized the Nigeria Police Force for arresting commission staff on election duty across the state.
Speaking on the conduct of the local government election, Abioye commended voters for turning out to exercise their rights despite the challenges.
He, however, expressed regret over the commission’s inability to provide accreditation materials to journalists, attributing the issue to the police sealing off OSSIEC’s headquarters, where the materials were stored.
Abioye further stated that delays in the arrival of election materials at some polling units were due to the arrest of OSSIEC officials responsible for their distribution.
He assured the public that alternative materials had been deployed and that voting was now underway.
