Suspected bandits reportedly killed over 40 people in an attack on Zurak village in the Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack occurred on Monday evening, leaving several houses ablaze and the community in shock.
Residents of Zurak, who confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online on Tuesday, stated that the attack happened around 7 pm while villagers were engaged in their regular activities. Due to the poor communication network in the area, reporting the incident was delayed.
Sahpi’i Sambo, a youth leader in the area, detailed the attack: “The bandits arrived at the community riding on two to three motorcycles, armed with sophisticated weapons, and started shooting sporadically at everyone.”
The violent incident prompted various reactions on social media.
King Chi expressed frustration, “Thank God for IPOB ooo though they collude with military in d east but IPOB and ESN are formidable against them. May God bless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Na Fulani people and they are being protected by the army. I urge the people of Jos to equip themselves and give them double of the sorrow they caused you guys. Na one head everybody get.
Chika Mba cynically remarked, “Ariwa republic of Northern Afghanistan Nigeria business is booming,” highlighting the chaos in the region.
M Godwin Babagod blamed the current administration, saying, “Everything happens for this APC administration .”
Agbaje Buliamin questioned the motives of the bandits, “What will be the gain of these bandits? Somebody should give me an answer, because I am confused .”
Odion Mikel pointed out the ongoing violence, stating, “Fulani is winning the war in Plateau State because they have the monopoly of killings and violence under APC since 2015.”
Nwaze Agezie Slvester lamented the recurring violence in the North, “The only news that we hear from the North is killing, raping, bombing, destroying, mass marriage of underage girls, terrorism, banditry, and begging. This one Nigeria no go work; we better go our separate ways in peace.”
Gbemi Ajayi criticized the role of religion in the conflict, “The religion of peace has brought nothing good to this country than bloodshed and violence. May the Prince of Peace reign over this nation.”
Iheadigo Mma reflected on the tragic situation, “Danny King, we are funny indeed while your people go extinct in the hands of your brothers. Evil breeds.”
