In a bid to advance discussions on local government autonomy and effective administration, a significant stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled to take place in Osogbo on Monday, August 26.
The event, organized by the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development as part of the OsunOpenLG Project, aims to deepen the discourse on grassroots governance.
According to the Project Lead, Jare Tiamiyu, the meeting is expected to draw the participation of experts from across the country.
Themed “Local Government and Uniform Development at the Grassroots,” the event will feature keynote remarks from prominent figures, including the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun; the Project Director of the National Democratic Institute, Abuja, Mr. Bem Aga; and the member representing Egbedore/Ede North/Ede South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam.
A panel discussion will also be held, featuring notable participants such as the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Barr. Hashim Abioye; state lawmaker Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu; Chairman of the Osun State Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC), Comrade Waheed Lawal; and the Chairperson of the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs. Abisola Ariwodola.
Other panelists include Mr. Bukola Idowu, Executive Director of Kimpact Development Initiative, and Barr. Hassan Mohammed, Osun State ICPC Resident Commissioner.
The event will also honor traditional rulers, with the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Oyelude Makama, and the Alawo of Awo, Oba Taiwo Adegboye, serving as the royal fathers of the day.
In addition to the discussions, the meeting will see the inauguration of 66 advocates for the OsunOpenLG Project, the issuance of pledge cards to stakeholders, and interactive sessions designed to foster engagement and commitment to local government reforms.
