The Osun State Government has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of misleading the public over a road featured in an advertorial published on the front page of the Nigerian Tribune, insisting that the project was executed during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
The government made the claim in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, in response to the advertorial published by the APC on August 4.
According to the commissioner, the road featured in the publication is located at Mukoro in Ile-Ife, contrary to the claim in the advertorial that it is situated in Modakeke.
Alimi said the state government had attached the GPS coordinates of the road to enable members of the public verify its location through Google Maps.
He maintained that the Adeleke administration has ongoing road projects in Ife and Modakeke but stressed that the road published in the advertorial is not among them.
“The road published as advertorial on the front page of the Nigerian Tribune by the Osun APC was constructed by the Oyetola administration. The road is located at Mukoro, Ile-Ife, not Modakeke as indicated in the advertorial,” the statement read.
The commissioner described the publication as misinformation, alleging that the advert sought to attribute defects on a project executed by the previous administration to the current government.
He further stated that the Adeleke administration had undertaken remedial and corrective works on several projects inherited from the immediate past administration, adding that the APC’s attempt to link the featured road to the current government was “deceitful.”
Alimi urged members of the public to independently verify the location and ownership of the road project before accepting the claims contained in the advertorial.
