Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, a leading aspirant for the Osun West Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, pledging not to act against its collective interests ahead of forthcoming elections in Osun State.
Speaking at his country home in Ile-Ogbo, Aiyedire Local Government Area, Ogunbiyi dismissed reports suggesting he made statements capable of undermining the party, describing them as misrepresentations by political opponents.
He said some individuals had taken his comments out of context during a consultation meeting with constituents, noting that party members who initially expressed concern later changed their position after reviewing the full video of the event.
“It does not add up that I would denigrate the same party under which I am pursuing my senatorial ambition,” he said, stressing that the success of the APC in the state is directly tied to his political aspirations.
Ogunbiyi reiterated his loyalty to the party’s leadership structure at all levels, stating that he remains a “complete party man” who would not act contrary to directives from party authorities.
The aspirant alleged that political opponents were behind what he described as a campaign of calumny aimed at damaging his rising profile, adding that investigations conducted by his team pointed to deliberate attempts to create division between him and key party figures.
He specifically pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and the APC governorship candidate in Osun, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
Ogunbiyi said the alleged smear campaign was designed to weaken his relationship with party leaders and derail his ambition, but insisted it would not affect his resolve to work for the party’s success in both the presidential re-election bid and the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun.
He cautioned against what he described as “do-or-die politics,” urging party members to avoid actions capable of creating disunity within the APC.
