In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on its student body, Kaduna State University (KASU) has announced that students facing financial constraints will be allowed to sit for exams despite unpaid school fees for the 2023/2024 academic session.
This decision, revealed by the university’s management on Thursday, comes as a directive from Governor Uba Sani, aiming to mitigate the impact of the current economic challenges.
The move has garnered widespread praise for Governor Uba Sani, with social media users commending the decision.
Amb Patience DBotukson Francis-Lekwot, a Facebook user, described it as a step towards correcting past mistakes, stating, “Writing the wrongs, I salute the present government….. This is commendable!”
Isah Ibrahim, another Facebook user, applauded Governor Uba Sani, saying, “Governor Uba Sani deserved to be applauded! We thank him profoundly for this esteem gesture. God bless Uba Sani, God bless the management of KASU, God bless the students of KASU, and God bless Nigeria!”
Moreover, Jeremiah Abui Tanko offered a prayer for Governor Uba Sani, commenting, “God of heaven come to our aid because we are dying with hunger everywhere in this country, bless our governor of Kaduna State.”
While commenting, Olatunji-Arobadi Adekunle Maruf expressed the hope that such policies would be adopted nationwide, emphasizing that certificates should not be withheld due to outstanding fees. He said, “that’s how it should be everywhere. Adding that there won’t be a collection of certificates without clearing outstanding fees.”
In his own comment, Suleiman Junge commended the governor for promoting democracy in the education sector, stating, “This is the dividend of democracy in the educational sector, kudos to the governor especially at the times of difficulties like this.”
Reflecting on his experience, KASU student Kayode Femi Kayode recounted the challenges caused by late payment of fees in the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic session. He remarked, “Omo Last semester like this I missed 4 exams out of 11 due to late payment. Definitely my roughest semester because it affected me mentally. I hope every school adopts this policy.”
However, Danjuma Yusuf suggested that reducing school fees could prevent such mental health challenges during exam preparation, stating, “Just reduce the school fees so that they can pay, the embarrassment and trauma is not good for any students preparing for exams.”
