After the board and management of Union Keystone and Polaris Bank were dissolved on Wednesday, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced Yetunde Oni as the new Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Union Bank.

Yetunde Oni, with a career spanning 25 years, assumed the CEO position at Union Bank.

 

Key Facts about Yetunde Oni:

Holds a degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan (1991), Executive Training at Oxford University (2016), and an MBA in Business Administration from Bangor University (2020).

Started her career at Prime Merchant Bank Treasury & Money Markets Group.

Joined Ecobank Nigeria in 1994, working in the Institutional Banking Group as a Relationship Manager (1994 – 2005).

Joined Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria in January 2005, initially in the Local Companies division as a Senior Account Relationship Manager.

Later moved to the Apapa Branch, taking on dual duties of developing the bank’s local corporate portfolio in Apapa and Ogun State Region, along with her role as Head of the Wholesale Banking Branch.

Appointed as the Head of Local Corporates in May 2010.

In 2014, became Managing Director and Country Head of Commercial Banking in West Africa for Standard Chartered Bank (2014 – Jan 2021).

Played a pioneering role during her seven-year tenure as the head of Commercial Banking.

Before her managerial role at Union Bank, became the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank in Sierra Leone in January 2021.
