The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) chapter, remains firm in their decision to uphold the suspension of their former executives led by Chinedu Ihejirika, despite facing verbal criticisms from the Owerri zone of the union.
Addressing the media regarding the ongoing turmoil within the union, Comrade Frank Ojiako, the acting chairperson of ASUU-FUTO, dismissed the assertions made by Professor Denis Aribodor, the Owerri zone coordinator, as a concoction of “fiction and partial truths” designed to mislead the general public.
Ojiako further highlighted the absurdity of the ASUU Owerri zone leadership’s attempt to impose Chinedu Ihejirika, a suspended member, onto the union. He reaffirmed that Ihejirika’s suspension remained in effect.
He stated, “The former executive committee of ASUU-FUTO, led by Comrade Chinedu Ihejirika, has been indefinitely suspended. An interim executive, appointed through a legally-sanctioned and extensively attended Congress held at the Forestry and Wildlife Technology Department Auditorium on July 3, is currently in place.”
Ojiako provided insight into the reasons behind the suspension, citing offenses that ranged from alleged financial mismanagement to repeated violations of ASUU-FUTO congress resolutions, along with a smear campaign against the state exco, among other transgressions.
