A non-governmental organization, Africa Solidarity Movement (ASM) Ivory Coast, has appointed new executive members to lead the movement across West African countries.
The appointments were made during a congress held on December 15, 2022, where five members were unanimously selected to steer the organization.
Ambassador Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi, the newly appointed Secretary General of ASM Nigeria, shared that the movement was founded in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and has since partnered with other West African nations to promote African heritage and culture.
Among the new appointees, Ambassador Amad Kouassi from Ivory Coast was named President of ASM Ivory Coast, while Ambassador Kojo Addo from Ghana was appointed Vice President. Lethabo Omari from South Africa was chosen as the Financial Secretary, and Emmanuel Kossi from Togo was selected as the Head of Intergovernmental Intervention.
Oyeniyi emphasized the movement’s mission to celebrate and preserve African heritage, stating, “Africa Solidarity Movement (ASM) was founded in 2022 in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, and other African countries have partnered with us to promote our continent’s culture and heritage globally.”
He also announced plans for the ASM Summit, scheduled for September 2024, which will serve as a platform for young people across Africa to learn, network, and share ideas on issues affecting their lives. “The summit will bring together young people, policymakers, development partners, and international organizations to discuss challenges and opportunities facing Africa’s youth and to develop innovative solutions,” Oyeniyi explained.
