Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has clarified that the political alliance involving the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state is strictly for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Adeleke made the clarification on Thursday in Osogbo while inaugurating the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council, bringing together political leaders from the three parties to mobilise support for Tinubu.
The governor said the alliance would not extend to legislative elections, stressing that participating parties and their members remained free to support their respective candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly.
“Our coalition is solely about Mr President, a man who means so much to Osun State and Nigeria. Our alliance is about the presidential election, in which we have all agreed to support the re-election of President Tinubu,” Adeleke said.
He expressed confidence that the coalition could secure substantial support for Tinubu in Osun, describing the gathering as a combination of influential political figures capable of strengthening the president’s re-election campaign.
The governor had earlier set a target of at least 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in the state, urging political stakeholders to put aside their differences and work towards achieving the objective.
Meanwhile, Adeleke disclosed that discussions between the Federal Government and the Osun State Government over the lingering local government crisis had reached an advanced stage.
He expressed optimism that the dispute would soon be resolved, assuring residents that positive developments could be expected.
The inauguration attracted prominent political figures, including former Osun State governor and former APC National Chairman, Bisi Akande; APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru; and former APC National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore.
Speaking at the event, Basiru urged political stakeholders to respect Tinubu’s decision to work with Adeleke in coordinating the presidential campaign, regardless of their party affiliations or personal ambitions.
Akande and Omisore also called for unity among political leaders, urging party members to cooperate with Adeleke to strengthen Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
