A prominent businessman and community leader in Osun State, Yusuf Amuda Lawal, popularly known as Obelawo, has died at the age of 94.
His death was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head of the Lawal Obelawo family, Bolanle Sarah Obelawo-Adedimeji.
The family described the late Obelawo as a respected patriarch known for his leadership, integrity and commitment to service.
According to the statement, the deceased was a distinguished personality whose influence extended beyond his immediate family and community to other parts of Nigeria and West Africa.
“It is with profound gratitude and total submission to the will of the Almighty God that the family of Lawal Obelawo announces the passing of our revered patriarch, Prince Lawal Obelawo,” the statement read.
The family noted that the late businessman, who held the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), was widely regarded for his wisdom, generosity and dedication to the progress of his community.
“Prince Lawal Obelawo (OON) was a distinguished figure whose influence and legacy extended across South-West Nigeria, Nigeria at large and throughout West Africa and other parts of the world. He was a man of honour, wisdom and unwavering integrity, devoted to the unity, progress and wellbeing of his family, community and the nation,” the statement added.
The family further described him as a pillar of strength and guidance whose life of service and leadership would continue to inspire generations.
Funeral arrangements, according to the statement, will be announced by the family at a later date.
