The best graduating student of English and Literary Studies, Oyelade Anthony Oluwatosin, from Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, has urged students to always associate with like-minded individuals who value education and can contribute to their career development towards becoming the best.
The 26-year-old graduate achieved the highest CGPA of 4.17(second-class upper) in the English department since its accreditation at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
Hailing from Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, Anthony graduated with a remarkable CGPA in the history of the department.
The award ceremony took place on December 9, 2023, at Olusegun Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall during the institution’s 12th convocation.
However, in an interview with this reporter, Anthony encouraged students to surround themselves with like-minded individuals who value education.
While Anthony didn’t secure a first-class degree, he stands as the top-performing graduate in the department, aspiring to impact society by promoting awareness of rights and fostering fluent self-expression.
Anthony expressed his commitment to guide others in understanding their rights and navigating social interactions.
He emphasized the importance of expressing oneself in society and aims to bring about lasting solutions.
Choosing to study English Studies stemmed from Anthony’s recognition of his weakness in English usage.
Initially perceiving the field as solely focused on teaching, his perspective shifted over time, and he developed a strong reading habit.
Reflecting on his journey, Anthony admitted he didn’t initially conceive of achieving such academic excellence but sensed it in his 300-level.
Despite facing challenges, including the loss of his sponsor during his academic journey, he remained resilient and thankful for the support that came thereafter.
Anthony, known for walking long distances due to financial constraints, humorously noted that “leg is faster than bike.” Motivated by a desire to improve himself to help others, he became distinguished for providing tutorials to fellow students.
His achievement not only brought joy but also afforded him direct contact with notable personalities, including the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, and government representatives.
Anthony acknowledged the strict marking patterns of some lecturers, attributing it to their individual styles.
Offering advice to aspiring students, Anthony emphasized the importance of consistency in studies and cautioned against desperation for success, which might lead to unethical practices.
