Osun REC Assures Credible 2026 Polls, Vows Crackdown on Vote-Buying

As preparations intensify for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its commitment to conducting credible and transparent polls.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke, gave the assurance on Thursday during a media parley with the Osun Online Media Practitioners Association (OOPA) in Osogbo.

Agboke disclosed that the commission will partner with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and security agencies to curb electoral malpractices, particularly vote-buying.

“We will not allow anyone to compromise the integrity of the election. Any individual or group caught in vote-buying will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.

While clarifying the role of the Results Viewing Portal (IREV), Agboke explained that it is designed for transparency and public access to election results but should not be mistaken for the official collation process.

The REC also urged political parties to promote inclusiveness by fielding more women and youths in elective positions, stressing that their active participation would strengthen democracy.

He appealed to residents of Osun to cooperate with INEC, assuring them that their votes will count in the forthcoming election.
