The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, has responded to allegations making the rounds about the operations and editorial stance of Rave 91.7FM, Osogbo, cautioning against attempts to undermine media credibility for partisan interests.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, and the Secretary, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju, the union said it deemed it necessary to address the concerns in a balanced and responsible manner, in line with its commitment to upholding the ethics and integrity of journalism.
The Council noted that while constructive criticism remains essential in strengthening media accountability in a democratic setting, it warned against sweeping generalisations and unverified allegations capable of damaging the reputation of media organisations without due process.
According to the NUJ, Rave FM has over the years distinguished itself as a vibrant broadcast platform, contributing meaningfully to public discourse, civic engagement, and the dissemination of information within Osun State and beyond.
It noted that the station operates within the bounds of editorial independence, guided by professional judgment and the realities of news production.
The union further cautioned political actors and interest groups against deliberate attempts to disparage, intimidate, or discredit media organisations in pursuit of partisan advantage.
It stressed that the media remains a critical pillar of democracy, warning that any effort to erode its credibility poses a threat to press freedom and the democratic process.
The NUJ urged political stakeholders to engage the media constructively and responsibly, rather than promoting narratives that could weaken public trust in established institutions.
It also reaffirmed its readiness to speak out against actions that undermine the independence and safety of journalists in the state.
Reiterating its commitment to professionalism, the Council pledged to continue mediating concerns where necessary, while ensuring that journalism in Osun State serves the public interest without fear or favour.
