The Osun State Chairman of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Odesola Oluseye Titus, has clarified that the recent Appeal Court ruling has no connection to the 2022 judgment that nullified the local government election conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
In a statement on Monday, Oluseye emphasized that the judgment delivered in the case filed by APP against APC and OSSIEC on November 30, 2022, remains valid and unchanged.
He stated that the Appeal Court’s decision does not affect the earlier ruling, which sacked the local government officials elected in the controversial “Yes or No” election.
“We in APP want to use this opportunity to urge the public to note that the APP judgment has no bearing on today’s court decision, and its validity remains unaffected,” Titus said.
Oluseye also dismissed rumors suggesting that candidates from the nullified election would be reinstated, stating that no court order has approved their return to office.
“I would also like to address the false rumor circulating about the Yes or No election candidates returning to office. Please be assured that there is no such order,” he affirmed.
The APP chairman reassured the public that the upcoming local government election scheduled for February 22, 2025, remains on course, stressing its importance to democratic development in Osun State.
“Today’s judgment has no impact on the upcoming local government election. This election is very important for the development of our democracy. It will proceed as planned, and I encourage all eligible voters to get ready to perform their civic duty,” he said.
He therefore urged the public to remain calm, focused, and committed to the democratic process, while avoiding distractions.
The statement comes amid ongoing legal battles surrounding the 2022 local government election, which was nullified by the Federal High Court in November 2022.
