The Action Peoples Party (APP) has elected Bamiji Clement Adesuyi as its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election, following a primary election conducted on Monday in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.
Adesuyi, who emerged as the party’s flagbearer through affirmation, was unanimously endorsed by 39 delegates at the end of the voting exercise. The result was announced by the Osun APP State Chairman, Oluseye Titus Odesola.
In his acceptance speech, Adesuyi pledged total commitment to the growth and success of the party ahead of the 2026 poll, assuring members that he would not betray their trust.
“I will do everything possible to ensure that APP succeeds in Osun in 2026. All members of the party are one, and together we will move the party forward,” he said, adding that the primary election was transparent and conducted in strict compliance with INEC regulations.
Earlier, Odesola, in his welcome address, described the primary as a defining moment for the party, noting that it marked the selection of a candidate to carry the APP flag in the next governorship election. He assured delegates of a fair, peaceful and transparent process, urging them to conduct themselves with dignity and adhere strictly to party rules.
Delivering a goodwill message, the APP National Organising Secretary, Barrister Obed Agu, commended the resilience of the party’s Osun chapter and charged members to remain steadfast.
Agu warned against what he described as Nigeria’s drift towards a one-party system, stressing that the APP would resist such an agenda, which he said was against the principles of democracy.
“We will practice democracy in Nigeria, and APP has come to stay. In whatever weather, we have come to stay like the elephant. We are resolute and steadfast,” he said. “Most parties are divided, but today APP is still standing strong. There is nothing like faction, and we will never be divided.”
He also appealed to party members in the state to remain united, expressing confidence that the APP would emerge stronger, while lamenting the country’s economic challenges, poor road infrastructure and insecurity.
Adesuyi was the sole aspirant in the primary election, with party members moving for his affirmation, which was unanimously adopted by the delegates.
